I was told I had to change from the combined pill to the mini-pill due to having frequent migraines, which I was frustrated about because I had been on the combined pill for years with absolutely no problems. I experienced frequent and prolonged bleeding for the first 9-10 months of being on this pill, sometimes lasting for nearly a month at a time. I was told by my GP that this was normal. There was no pattern to it so I couldn’t predict it and it was really depressing. 11 months on, it seems to have settled down but I do still get random spotting now and again, sometimes just a smudge and sometimes enough to use a tampon. I will stick with it just because I don’t want to switch to another hormonal method of contraception before my wedding, just in case there are any worse effects than the odd bit of bleeding, but would consider changing in the future and certainly will change if the prolonged bleeding comes back.
