I was offered Cerelle by my obstetrician as a possible solution to my PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). I was sceptical at first, as I had awful experiences with the combined pill, Microgynon, in the past, and this frankly put me off all kinds of OC altogether. However, I decided to take my obstetrician’s advice and tried Cerelle. My obstetrician’s theoretical goal was that if we could induce amenorrhea, I would not experience such a significant luteal phase, which was supposedly causing my PMDD. So, she increased me to 150mg p/d (double dose) and my periods stopped. As soon as my periods stopped, I noticed my PMDD was vastly improved – it was like a miracle! I’m glad I took the plunge to try Cerelle. I now only have a couple of bad days a month, and they’re totally manageable. I now only experience what I would imagine to be regular emotional PMS – a bit of moodiness but nothing major. Now that I have tried cerelle with such positive results, I’m curious what other possible hormonal solutions there may be for my PMDD, though I am scared to switch! Ultimately I would highly recommend this pill for someone looking for a low-hormone option with few side effects. Additionally, if you have high male-hormone levels like I do, I feel it is a good solution (as the combined-pill can negatively affect the mood of females with high male hormones). It should be said that I am not taking this pill for contraceptive purposes, as I already have a copper IUD. I am taking Cerelle only as a monitored PMDD treatment.
