Experience

I had the implant for almost two years and had it removed almost three months ago. My mood was so unstable on it and I constantly felt fatigued/exhausted. I put on weight but this may have been more due to the pandemic. I only had a period twice which I used the implant, they were both really heavy and happened within a week of each other – it was horrific. As someone who has anxiety and other mental illnesses, I found that the implant really didn’t help with my moods and I constantly felt out of control.

Experience after taking

It’s only been a few months’ of not being on hormonal contraception, so my body is still adjusting but I have noticed that I am feeling so much better mood wise. My cycle is not in sync yet and I am having lots of new side effects, like feeling nauseous and sweaty when it does start. The fatigue before my period is due to start is worse and I have tender breasts for about a week. From talking to other people, I realise that it can take up to a year for you body to get used to not being on hormonal contraception, especially after not having a natural cycle for nearly 10 years! It’s a lot for my body to get used to but I would still take it over being on hormonal contraception any day of the week.
