I’m about to reach the end of my 3rd implant so I’ve been using it for 9 years. I have mixed feelings – on the one hand I love not having to worry about it and that it’s less invasive / less to go wrong with insertion compared with a coil. On the other hand, my periods have been so irregular & seem to be getting longer and longer lasting for at least 2-3 weeks, so I’m thinking about changing. I don’t have too many other issues with my period, just hormonal spots and looooong bleeding, but thankfully no cramps. My sex drive is low but I honestly can’t tell if it’s the implant because I’ve been on it for so long. It’s been like this every time so things settling after 6 months definitely wasn’t true for me. I’d like to come off it but I’m not sure what my body and cycle will be like without it, and worried a new method might be worse. Overall, I think it was a good choice for long term contraception when I was younger, but it does seem like the “occasional side effects” are way more common than all the NHS info advises.
