Experience

Had the implant for roughly 2 and a half years, asked for it be removed a few months early. Periods immediately stopped, and did not return until just over 2 years later. Once periods started again, I had at least two a month, sometimes with spotting in between – which lead to decision to have it removed. I’ve always had some issues with light acne, but noticed a large increase in this while on the implant – starting within a couple weeks of insertion. Had bad acne pretty much the entire duration of the contraception. Massively decreased sex drive. Went from having a high sex drive to having very little interest in sex, to the point I thought of it as being too much effort. Additionally suffered from vaginal dryness (which often caused small patches of eczema and occasionally thrush – very unpleasant). Affected mood, felt significantly more detached and depressed while on the implant. Also slight weight gain (half a stone to a stone) and weight fluctuations but this could have been caused by external factors.

Experience after taking

Periods returned to normal within a month. Acne started clearly up almost immediately, now mostly gone. Within days of removal, sex drive returned along with reversal of vaginal dryness) and mood dramatically improved (I had not really noticed that my general mood had decreased or my lack of interest in most things until the sudden change following removal, as I had gotten used to it) Since it’s removal, I have found myself much more excited by life, interested in doing things and socialising. Immediately after removal, felt like I had just woken up after having been asleep for nearly three years of coasting through life.
