Experience

As a young woman, with no children I think getting the IUD was the wrong option for me, I was on contraceptive pills for a while but struggles with the routine of having to take one so opted for an easier method. The pain I experienced during and for a couplen of weeks after getting the coil fitted was horrendous and even now a year on I get the odd cramp and spotting, my periods have overall stopped though however until a few months ago I have had a lot of problems with ph balance causing bacterial vaginosis , thrush and cystisis. For the first 6 months this was constant I was always booking doctors appointments and on antibiotics, if I had known all of this at the start I wouldn’t have gotten the coil, however I think (touch wood) it has finally settled as I haven’t had any problems in a while! (Just want to make a point of saying this is my experience as a 20year old, I have older friends who had the coil and all three woman have had no where near as many problems as me if any, but they have all had children so that might be the difference!)
