Experience

Insertion was absolutely fine, just take the strongest painkillers you can find beforehand and go straight to bed after. The first month on Mirena was debilitating (bleeding too heavily to really do much), BUT it suddenly cleared up overnight and was great thereafter. I had it for nearly 4 years and decided to have it removed because I felt my moods becoming increasingly erratic (a symptom I associate with hormones having previously used the pill in early 20s). Main reason though was because I had 3 ruptured ovarian cysts as a direct result (the cysts grew as a result of the hormonal coil, I do not have PCOS or anything). Excruciating pain – thankfully no lasting damage, but docs said it was a not uncommon side effect. It’s a shame because I would’ve kept it for years. I highly recommend based on my first 2 years with it!

Experience after taking

A lot of pain and cramping and the first period took 5 weeks to arrive and it was very very heavy and painful. But since then, absolutely no problems, feel a lot calmer and more even in my moods, feel great.
