Experience

Getting it in was extremely painful, i vomited from the pain and was shaking and irritable. Afterwards I had spotting and mucousy discharge for 6 months non-stop. My periods stopped after that completely for the remaining 4 and a half years. I gained 25kg (4 stone) in the year following getting it put in despite actually eating LESS and excercising more. I became very forgetful, could not remember words half way through a sentence and often forgot things when I went shopping. Despite not having a period, I would often get such debilitating cramps, I would be curled up on the floor, unable to stand up – I have not had this once since getting it removed. I dod not get pregnant and had better skin while using, now i have some spots on my chin, despite having relatively clear skin whilst using. Despite what doctors say, getting it put in IS PAINFUL, they are dilating your cervix and the local anaesthetic is not an anti-spasmodic so you still feel awful cramps whilst getting it done.

Experience after taking

Getting it removed was an ordeal as the threads got lost so the Gynae had to use arterial forceps to open my cervix and fish it out – not pleasant as you can imagine. I had spotting for a day or two after getting it removed and had regular periods for the three months following but as of today, I have not had a period for four months (i am unsure if this is due to the coil or something else though). I have not had any instances of horrendous cramps as when I had the coil in since removal. I dont think I would use hormonal birth control again in the future, despite the benefit of not having a period.
