Experience

I had this inserted around 4 years ago to manage dysmenhorrea, and the insertion is the biggest downside to this method. I ended up with a torn cervix in absolute agony. Pracitioners really need to be using pain management as routine with these. I went from someone quite confident in going for my smear tests to someone who is now very nervous about these kinds of appointments. The first few months weren’t great- random cramping, endless bleeding and discomfort. However, after this settled down, I haven’t had a proper period. A bit of brown discharge every few months and that’s it. I did find that it reduced my libido (but not as much as the combined pill) and for the first few months I ended up with some diffuse hair loss which did eventually grow back. I’m dreading having this removed and I won’t be getting another.
