I have just had my Mirena coil fitted and I wanted to write a review to dispel what others have said. I did not feel a thing! Nothing at all. The Gynecologist first checked my womb and cervix with an ultrasound to check that anatomically everything was ok for the coil fit. He then placed the speculum and cleaned my cervix with an antiseptic solution. He then used an instrument to measure my womb, at this point he said I would feel cramping like a period, I felt nothing at all. He then inserted the coil and when he was done I could t believe it had been fitted. He checked the position on the ultrasound again and told me everything was fine. After having read all the horror stories I can’t believe my coil fit went so smoothly. I think it’s important to write about positive experiences because it’s normal that when we have a negative experience we want to complain. So for any women considering this option out there, just go for it! Go in relaxed and breathe. It’s not half as bad as you think it will be. I also took paracetamol and ibuprofen an hour before my appointment so I’m sure this must have helped too.
