Experience

I had the more a fitted 2 months after having my 2nd child, with the thoughts that we our current circumstances dictated that we didn’t want any more children but had the choice to reassess in 5 years time. I chose to have it fitted at the local sexual health clinic as they do these things day in day out so felt more at ease with them than my GP. The fitting process took a little time as I wasn’t very ‘relaxed’ down there and they struggled to gain access to my cervix, however with a couple of nurses present to distract me, fitting was able to take place. I had taken paracetamol prior to my appointment, as advised and only experienced mild discomfort. After fitting, I had mild cramping but nothing unlike normal period pain. My periods calmed down a lot which was fantastic as normally they were painful and I would be ill for the first few days. I do know when it’s that time of the month, as I do experience mild symptoms such as tender breasts, mild headaches. The one thing I have noticed- but only as it was pointed out to me was the change in my mood and well-being. I would say this has been worse since having the Mirena fitted. I am now 3 years in and considering my next steps on whether to have another one or look at alternatives. We have also discussed my husband having the snip as a possibility- that’s why I know my mood swings must be bad!! I would recommend, everyone has their own experiences with each contraceptive, it’s just finding what works best for you.
