The process of getting it fitted I found personally horrific, I knew there would be discomfort but this was nearly unbearable and it lasted a good 10 hours afterwards, it was pain I’d never felt before. The next day it was fine but over the course of 6 months I would get the most intense cramping which would last hours and nothing would help to ease the pain I just had to wait for it to pass. Everyone is different and drs say it can hurt but I was in tears some days the pain was so bad and was very close to asking them to remove it on several occasions. I stuck with it as they say it’s takes 6months ish to settle and luckily it did! I now have no periods. I have noticed a big lack in sex drive. Also a lot of weight gain which I’m struggling to lose with strict diet and exercise. I do get the odd cramp here and there but nothing like what I had at the start. I’ve been struggling with excessive discharge which I had before I had the coil fitted, I switched from the implant hoping this would improve it but it hasn’t and I think it’s made it worse. I’ve had the coil in over a year now, unfortunately it hasn’t fixed the issue of getting it fitted in the first place but if I hadn’t chosen it for that reason I would be happy with it. I wish doctors would prepare you more for the ‘discomfort you may feel’ I think those who say that have never actually had one!
