Experience

I had the Mirena IUS inserted as the ‘gold standard’ treatment for endometriosis and adenomyosis, and it made my life hell – my symptoms were almost as bad, and more varied, than those I experienced before I had any intervention for endo/adeno. I had terrible cramps (stomach/pelvic and back), acne (for the first time in years), mood swings, unpredictable, long periods and mid-cycle bleeds (with iron deficiency as a result), sustained low mood/depression, anxiety and fatigue. The only thing that stopped my symptoms was going back on the Norimin-1 combined pill, which was a godsend, (my gynae refused to remove the Mirena so I was using both methods), but I got migraines with aura so had to stop taking it. Despite my symptoms, I’m still told by every doctor that the Mirena is the ‘gold standard’ and I should just stick with it.
