So I’m on month 3 of having the Mirena I chose mirena for long term contraception. Prior to this I wasn’t on any contraception and had regular normally pain free periods.
I read so many reviews but I suppose the full reality doesn’t hit you until you have it yourself.
So insertion …. Is like what everyone says a very painful cramp i think I literally had 2 big cramps that I was warned about and they were painful but very short. I just remember saying to myself breath and I got very sweaty.
Straight after insertion I didn’t really have any pain and drove myself home from the hospital however within 4 hours the cramping started…
This cramping lasted pretty much every day for at least 2 weeks and these cramps were intense I felt like I was in labour ( I’ve never had kids btw haha!) But I’d be out of breath trying to pant out of them. These lasted for 2 months on and off the whole time I had brown discharge that never went away however some days it was very light and other days really thick but no more than a panty liner needed. This therefore affected my sex drive more so because I just didn’t feel comfortable due to the discharge and the constant cramping.
I got my period on time and have had them the past two months, I’ve personally found my periods last about an extra 3 days and are very painful from about 3 days before starting. Also my boobs get tender 2 weeks before. But the actual period is lighter to what I’d normally have. I’m currently waiting for my 3rd one now and so far the brown discharge has re appeared and the cramping has started but the past 3 weeks have been my best yet in ” feeling normal”.
I think after reading all different reviews everyone is different and you will never know how your body is going to be but now that I’m 3 months in I’m glad I’ve got it and I’m looking forward to my body getting used to it even more.
