The Mirena didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. I’d read reviews and was really worried about getting it put in because I’m awful with pain, but aside from a pinch and some cramps after, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The cramps were on-par with my normal period cramps, which typically are on 3-4 out 10 in terms pain. I’d definitely take some Advil or Tylenol beforehand just in case, and I slept most of the afternoon after getting it put in. I had irregular spotting for ~7 months after getting it put in, but easily managed with a single panty liner a day. Aside from the spotting, it has stopped my periods entirely. I only get spotting now if I am exceptionally stressed or emotional. I also don’t get cramps as much anymore, although the horomonal parts of menstruating — light mood swings, tender breasts, light bloating, food cravings — still happen occasionally. Overall, I am extremely happy with my Mirena.
