Having the IUD fitted wasn’t as bad as some of the horror stories I’d heard – it’s never going to be pleasant but it’s tolerable! I’d always advise to take/ask for the anaesthetic injection to make the whole experience easier. Since the fitting, I had cramps and pain for about 2/3 weeks, and I was bleeding for 3/4 weeks. I’m now 6 weeks in and only experiencing spotting that may last up to 3 months. I was really unhappy in the combined pill and had tried a few different kinds but they all made my skin TERRIBLE – even Yasmine which is supposed to clear up your skin. Since getting the IUD my skin has cleared up completely and I don’t feel any of the mood/emotional side effects I always felt on the combined pill. Overall I’m pleased I changed to the hormonal IUD, I’m experiencing less side effects than on the combined pill even in these early days and I think it’s going to be worth the perseverance.
