Experience

After years on different types of pill, with various negative side effects, it was a huge relief to switch to the Mirena coil. I don’t have to think about it and side effects have been minimal. I experienced fairly severe cramps but only for the first week – when it was first inserted and again when it was replaced after five years. After that the cramps have gone away completely. I don’t have periods, just some occasional spotting, and I haven’t noticed any mood changes. I do suffer from periodic bouts of unexplained dizziness, around every 4-6 months. The dizziness comes on very suddenly and can last for a few days. It never occurred to me that it might be related to my coil, until it was a question on here – and my GP hasn’t suggested that connection either – so it could be completely unrelated. I had endometriosis diagnosed in 2000 and the Mirena coil was recommended as the next step in controlling it. Overall I’m very happy with it.
