I would really recommend the Jaydess coil. I had previously been taking the pill which made me completely lose my sex drive. I was apprehensive about trying hormonal contraception again, as I didn’t want to stop ovulating and lose my sex drive again. I am also sensitive to progesterone and have PMDD (bad PMS). My periods have always been heavy and painful, so I was put off trying the copper coil despite it having no hormones. I decided to opt for Jaydess because it’s such a small dose of hormone and it all works locally in your uterus, meaning you don’t have loads of progesterone running all over your body! The insertion was painful and uncomfortable, but so worth it. The painful part was over within 5 minutes. After I had the coil inserted, I did have regular spotting and really very painful cramps for the next 4-5 months. I was considering changing to the Kyleena coil because the spotting was started to get really annoying, especially when having sex. However, within 6 months it all stopped. I have regular periods which last around 7 days and no spotting in between. My periods are much lighter so I just need to wear liners, instead of extra heavy tampons like I did before. I get mild cramps before my period but nothing terrible. My sex drive or mood hasn’t been affected and I don’t have any side effects! I’d really recommend this coil, and also recommend that you stick with it until 6 months. If you’re still having trouble after 6 months then consider taking it out, but I’m so happy I stuck with it through the initial spotting and cramps.
