Experience

I had the Jaydess coil for approximately 4 months when I started to experience extreme pain after having sex on a few occasions (enough to make me cry). I had checked my strings and they were still present (very important!) I visited my local sexual health clinic and saw a consultant on two occasions following these experiences, who encouraged me to persist with the coil as I have only had it on for 4/5 months. I felt that I wasn’t being listened to by this particular consultant but agreed to continue anyway. By 7 months in, I had fallen pregnant. An ultrasound scan confirmed that the coil had dropped down into my cervix and had become dislodged, causing the pain I was experiencing and rendering it completely ineffective as a form of contraception. Of course the strings were still there because the coil was still present. I had a good experience on this contraception otherwise, re. side effects, however I had previously had a copper coil become dislodged. It seems my body does not like coils. Feel free to use this contraception but my important advice would be: 1. Always check the strings 2. Just because the strings are there, DON’T assume it is still effective 3. If you experience any pain (after the normal pain of it being fitted) push to get your device checked and push for an ultrasound scan to confirm the correct placement of the device
