Experience

I had the Jaydess fitted in 2014. I was actually told that I was getting the Mirena but after having it removed recently, I was informed that my previous GP had erroneously inserted the wrong device. I’ve experienced weight gain and erratic moods to the extent that I’ve began to take anti-depressants. I feel that one of the few variables which could have led to my low moods was the insertion of the Jaydess. From reading studies, it appears that approximately 20% of women suffer adverse effects and opt to discontinue using this device. I had the Jaydess for 5 years (because I thought it was a Mirena), and it is honestly a miracle that I did not fall pregnant. I won’t argue that it doesn’t provide effective birth control, as it did prevent pregnancy despite being used significantly beyond its expiration date. I can’t necessarily attribute the weight gain I experienced to the Jaydess as I did move away for university immediately after having it fitted. My diet and exercise regime did change substantially. The removal has been awful. I’ve experienced even lower moods and haven’t felt myself at all. The device was taken out approximately three days ago and replaced with a coil, and I think that the small fluctuation in hormones has turned me into an emotional wreck. I think for anyone who struggles with depression or anxiety, it is certainly worth considering an alternative device without hormones.
