Experience

Initially, once inserted (painful), I thought the coil was great – like the pill without having to worry about forgetting, and no periods. However, I had previously had some instances of light (and one heavy) bleeding during and after sex. It was diagnosed as a cervical ectropion, which is not harmful, just cells on the cervix that bleed easily especially during exercise or sex. On the coil this bleeding became much more common and much heavier. It led to me not having sex with a very patient partner for about half a year, which impacted on my confidence. The treatments are topical freezing, which did not work, or hot cautery (which carries risks if you want to have kids in the future). Doctors insisted it wasn’t to do with the coil, which is apparently used as a treatment for this condition.

Experience after taking

Since having the coil out I can say that it has improved drastically. Using condoms for the last year as a result, which I don’t like, but don’t feel like I have other options. Darkened body hair has not gone away. 1 year later, periods are still all over the place; for the first few weeks it was every 4th week like clockwork but now sometimes in the 5th or 6th week.
