Experience

I had terrible terrible pain after insertion, but I thought that this was normal as I had read lots of reviews online saying the pain would be bad. Fast forward 2 years to me having an unexpected bleed, and after a trip to my sexual health clinic and an ultrasound scan I was told that the coil had perforated my womb at insertion and one of the upper arms was lodged in my womb. I got it taken out and waited a couple of weeks before getting the hormonal coil as it is much smaller – apparently I have a small uterus! Luckily I was also told that there would be no long lasting effects from the perforation fertility wise. I loved the copper coil at the time I had it, but I would warn others that you shouldn’t expect to be in immense pain for days following insertion and to get this checked out if it does happen, don’t suffer in silence!

As I went back on the hormonal coil I didn’t notice much change, apart from more infrequent and lighter periods.
