Experience

For a long time, I was so happy with the copper coil: no mood swings, no hormones, no worries about making more babies. The only downside was heavy periods. I recall writing a highly favorable review of the coil on the Lowdown before. Then, I started to have an ache in my abdomen when I cycled or ran. The pain got worse and I felt unwell. I thought I had a UTI. The GP prescribed antibiotics and ordered an ultrasound of my lower abdomen; which revealed that the coil had become embedded in my uterus and needed to be surgically removed. Whilst waiting for surgery, the embedded coil caused a serious, nearly fatal, infection. Once again, I was on antibiotics. I was so unwell, I missed 10 days of work. Finally, the coil was surgically removed under general anesthesia in November 2019. Thank god the coil demon has be exorcised! To anyone thinking about the coil, please consider the statistics about coil complications! Also, I would love for more research to be done on whether or not having a c-section prior to using the coil increases the risk of coil complications. (my son was born via c-section).

Experience after taking

I felt relieved to have the infected, embedded coil removed from my uterus. I took a few months to feel normal and well again after surgery.
