The insertion process was slightly painful—it felt like really bad period cramps (bad compared to what I had previously, anyway), and I almost fainted shortly after. I had cramps for 2 days following, and slight spotting for a couple of weeks. A few days after insertion I bled a little bit after intercourse, but was assured that this was normal as my cervix was still healing (the sex didn’t hurt). I was told by my gyno that I could feel the strings of the IUD to check that it was in place, but I’ve never been able to feel them (had an ultrasound to ensure that it was in place, and it was). This is because a lot of people can’t feel their own cervix, it’s completely normal but I wish someone had told me. Other than the insertion, I’ve had an excellent experience with the copper coil. No side effects, no change to my period, and it’s had no negative impact on my quality of life.
