Experience

I absolutely loved taking Yasmin (also Lucette is the same pill under a different brand name) and was so sad to be taken off of combined hormone pills (having experienced migraines on a different pill – Dianette – I was dropped onto low dose alternative Yasmin, but recent changes in stroke risks meant my doctor decided to take me off it totally – which I’m disappointed about as I didn’t experience migraines on Yasmin at all). It kept my periods regular / lighter – like clock work on my 7 day pill free week, minimised cramps & I could run packs together if I wanted to skip a period. I suffer with PCOS and have experienced ovarian cysts (2 of which ruptured and I had to go to hospital), my GP recommended the combined pill to help minimise cysts and whilst taking Yasmin for circa 11-12 years didn’t experience any Ovarian Cyst symptoms. Another lovely side effect of PCOS is having excessive androgens which meant hirsutism (body hair) and acne – I had taken Roaccutane which more or less cured my acne, still got the odd hormonal flare up on my chin or jaw but they respond well to over the counter creams & weren’t bothersome. Yasmin really did help control the hormonal breakouts and minimise the effects of Androgens (hair on my arms are much fairer after years of taking). I read online that the NHS / Doctors Surgeries are looking to stop prescribing Yasmin / Lucette altogether as it’s considered an expensive medication, I really hope this isn’t true as it helped my PCOS symptoms a great deal with almost no side effects – would hate to think of any other PCOS sufferers eligible to take the pill being blocked for financial reasons, that doesn’t seem fair at all
