Experience

I have tried several pills – rigevidon, lucette, yasmin and finally gederal. I did my own research into different combined pills and which synthetic hormones are in them. I asked the doctor to change to gederal 20/150 as it has the lowest dosage of Ethinylestradiol which is the synethic hormone of estrogen (which I thought might be making me more emotionally unstable). Gederal 20/150 by far had the least severe side effects I’ve experienced with the other pills listed. However, I noticed my general mood was lower, mood swings increased, indecisiveness, lack of motivation and being easily triggered. This isn’t my ‘natural’ personality as I’m quite a chilled and consistent person. I decided to come off the pill altogether which of course was a big decision whilst being in a long-term relationship (along with getting used to using condoms again) but it’s definitely improved my mental well-being and we have both seen significant changes in one month. I am however tempted to try the copper coil (IUD) as it’s hormone free.

Well-being and mood is more positive. Less anxiety or mood swings. More PMS including bloating, fatigue and cravings as well as more cramps during period. However, generally much happier.
